It seems summer has come early, and while we are excited for days spent in the garden or lakeside in cottage country, the glory of unseasonably nice weather this early in the year also signals the drop in attendance for many live performance events (unless of course you are one of our peers operating a Theatre Port-side!)
In spite of our crossed fingers, our spectacular fundraiser event An Afternoon Affair (which was added to help alleviate our ongoing cash crunch) has not garnered the ticket sales we hoped it would, and as such we are rescheduling the event for September 15, 2024.Â
Iâve just returned from Montreal where the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (PACT) held their annual five-day conference, hosting roughly 250 arts leaders from over 115 companies, who traveled from coast to coast to coast to be there. While it was an incredibly inspiring week filled with stories of passion and determination, the reality remains that the professional Theatre industry is still very much on the path to recovery and stability. Regardless of the fact that the appetite to talk about the dreaded âP-wordâ has certainly fallen out of favor, for most companies in our sector (which like many other not-for-profit and charitable organizations have always run on very tight budgets) returning to a break-even base line and not having to worry about cash flow on the daily is still 12-24 months away.
An Afternoon Affair at Adamo Estate Winery is sure to be an exceptional event, and one that is anticipated to raise funds greatly needed to support the Theatre Orangeville programming that you all know and love - which is why we have rescheduled instead of canceling. Weâve received many notes from patrons that they are sorry to miss it, but the June calendar is just simply too full.Â
We are so fortunate at Theatre Orangeville to operate within such a vibrant arts and culture community and to have the wonderful support of our patrons, donors, sponsors and grantors alike, but we arenât in a position to wind down for the summer and gear back up in the Fall. Thereâs never been a time when we needed you more.
As your summer schedule begins to fill and youâre dotting the âIâs and crossing the âTâs on your calendar, please check out our upcoming events and include us in your summer plans. Donât wait to buy your tickets, do it now. Commit to a great evening (or afternoon) of world-class entertainment that will undoubtedly make the list of your favorite summer memories.
